Daily Lectio- No Hiding Place From The Author Of Creation

“You know when I sit down and when I rise up; you discern my thoughts from afar. (Psalm 139:2)

Meditation- O Lord there really is no hiding place from the Author of Creation (One Love, Bob Marley). You see us and You know every breath we take, every step we take to quote Sting. You know every thought and every song in our heads! I’m being a little silly this morning but in all seriousness there is not a thought, an act, a breath that we have done that has not been under Your Loving and watchful gaze! Yet You don’t don’t just watch us like the proverbial Clock Maker of the deists who believe that You exist but not that You intervene in our lives but You love us with an everlasting love because we are fearfully and wonderfully made by You as the rest of the Psalm of today tells us.

Prayer- O Lord, many may read a psalm like this and feel frightened and want to hide, who can stand as Psalm 130 say if You keep a record of our sins. But as the Psalm goes on to say You are filled with forgiveness and because of this we can trust in You and not run and hide because the God who sees us is also the God who loves us and gave His life for us that we would be truly free!

Priceless to God

Again, I will speak of something from your past. Remember when you were still working in the factory. Besides your work, which you did with great fidelity and responsibility, you took a course on quality control. You were very tired when you studied, so you thought and knew that you would not pass the exam. As a working mother with six children, burdened with a thousand preoccupations, you needed enormous effort to study. You surprised yourself by becoming the top student. Although you did not think of Me, My hand was upon you. (Jesus) (November 10, 1962)


Today’s Readings: O LORD, you have probed me and you know me; you know when I sit and when I stand; you understand my thoughts from afar. My journeys and my rest you scrutinize, with all my ways you are familiar. (Psalm 139)

Prayer Meditation- Lord there is not one moment of our lives that You have not known us, loved us, and held us in the Palm of Your Mighty Hand! From our work, to our family life, as well as our fatigue, faults, and failures- You are in all of it even when we do not think of You. Lord, may we praise and thank You today for Your Goodness and Mercy in every circumstance of our lives today- You will never let us go!

My Redeemer Lives!

For I know that my Redeemer lives and at last He will stand upon the earth (Job 19:25)

Meditation- Today’s Mass Reading is from the Book of Job. You know Job, he was tested and tried in every way but he stayed faithful even in the worst of circumstances and loss. Even as his wife told him to curse God and die! (Job 2:9). Even as friends kept stopping by with all kinds of questionable advice. And even God does not really give poor Job an answer but in Job 38 shows His Omnipotence as the One who tells the sun where to stand and the sea that it can only go so far! And that is the point isn’t it? We may never have all the answers in this life in our suffering but we do know the One who is in control and who always works all things for our good! (Romans 8:28). Yes Lord, You live and because You live we can face today and tomorrow and everything in between and we know You will have the final Word in our lives and for all time as You bring the new Heavens and the new Earth! (Revelations 21) Fiat!

Prayer- O Lord we praise You we thank You and we bless You because You are God Alone and You remain on the Throne even in our chaos. Reign in our hearts and reign in all the Earth!

Consumed With Longing- I Know That My Redeemer Lives

Consumed With Longing- I Know That My Redeemer Lives

There is always a great and continual longing for God in my heart. I accepted life, death and suffering according to His Holy Will. This filled me with such felicity words cannot express it. My heart throbbed with happiness. (Elizabeth) (June 5, 1965).

But as for me, I know that my Vindicator lives,
and that he will at last stand forth upon the dust;
Whom I myself shall see:
my own eyes, not another’s, shall behold him,
And from my flesh I shall see God;
my inmost being is consumed with longing. (Job 19)

Prayer Meditation: O Lord this passage from Job in the RSV-CE edition states I know that my Redeemer Lives! We know that we shall someday see You face to face, but now we see as through a glass darkly (1 Corinthians 13) if we see You at all. O Lord, Job as we know went through many tribulations and yet through it all he was still consumed with longing for You! Can we say that in our struggles our thoughts turn to longing for You of do they turn to worry, fear, despair, anger even?  Do we want to scream “why us!” or do we accept life death and suffering according to Your Holy Will? O Lord there is a beautiful song by Nicole C. Mullen called My Redeemer Lives which has some beautiful lines about longing for You in our suffering. Lines from this song- “the very same God that spins things in orbit runs to the weary, the worn, and the weak. And the same gentle hands that hold me when I’m broken, they conquer death to bring me victory!”  O Lord, we know that Our Redeemer Lives!

October 2- Feast of The Guardian Angels

” See that you do not despise one of these littles ones; for I tell you that in Heaven their Angels always behold the Face of My Father who is in Heaven.” (Matthew 18:10)

Fruit of Meditation- O Lord we are all Your little ones and our angels watch over us night and day. It is not You who leave us but us who leave You, forgetting we are little and You are Our Loving Father. O Lord we forget that we depend on You and Your care and protection for us and the love we have inside of us quietly grows cold. We become self reliant in our own eyes, yet we can do nothing without You, including love those around us! We cannot truly love one another as Your littles ones with any other Love but Yours!

Prayer- O Lord let us love with Your Love as our love is so poor to the point of nonexistent at times! Our Guardian Angels, guard and protect us! Mary, Queen of Angels pray for us!

All That We Can’t Leave Behind

Ever since
then, I heard Jesus’ demand many times in my soul. However, I did not write it down. But
rather, I tried to remove from my mind the idea to leave all behind. (Elizabeth) (Diary Page 13)

Today’s Readings: 
And another said, “I will follow you, Lord,
but first let me say farewell to my family at home.”
Jesus answered him, “No one who sets a hand to the plow
and looks to what was left behind is fit for the Kingdom of God.” (Luke 9)

Prayer Meditation: O Lord, how many times do we try to remove from our minds what it is You are asking of us. The enemy of our souls whispers to us so many excuses- so many thorns choking His Grace in our souls! Worries, fears, anxieties, demands of our state in life- Yes Lord but not yet we say! Lord help us to truly discern Your call in our lives- when to stay and when to go because we do not want to miss the time of our visitation! Let us plow forward for the Kingdom without looking back because our eyes are fixed on You!
